JOINT CARTILAGE DAMAGE AND CURRENT TREATMENT

The knee is a joint subjected to continuous load and therefore to microtraumas and traumas resulting from working and sporting activities carried out but just about everybody.

In addition, for reasons related to congenital defects or acquired deformations of the joint axis (knee varus, valgus) degeneration can start at an early age and with no relation to the actual age of the patient.

Knee operations with arthroscopic techniques, known as minimally invasive are carried out thanks to the use of specific optics and cameras. Many surgeons adopt these techniques since they have allowed for better investigation and ease of intervention when treating certain disorders. In Italy, meniscectomies are frequently carried out (the repair of the anterior cruciate ligament).

The true challenge for the future is to be able to reproduce and repair this very precious and particular tissue which covers our joints and allows our movements.
